Overview
Brake is a national road safety charity working to stop crashes, reduce harm and support people bereaved and seriously injured on UK roads. Their website serves a broad and sensitive audience, from road victims and their families seeking urgent help, to professionals, campaigners, schools and corporate partners. For an organisation running a national victim support service and high-profile campaigns including the annual Road Safety Week, the site needs to be reliable, well maintained and continually improving.
Brake came to us in 2021 with a site built by a previous agency, including several custom plugins. We took over its support, maintenance and development, and have been their development partner ever since.
Technical highlights
Updates and security
Craft CMS core and plugin updates on a regular cycle, with security advisories monitored and critical patches applied straight away. That matters for a site whose visitors can include people in crisis.
Bespoke plugin maintenance
The site includes custom plugins built by the previous agency. We maintain these alongside the commercial ones, keeping them compatible as Craft CMS evolves.
Donorfy fundraising integration
Donations made on the Brake website flow straight into Donorfy, the charity’s fundraising CRM, so supporter records stay accurate without manual data entry.
Why it matters
Brake's website is not a passive brochure - it is an active part of how the charity delivers its mission. Road victims and their families may arrive at the site in crisis, looking for help quickly. Campaigners, professionals and donors need to find what they need without friction. Road Safety Week alone brings a significant spike in traffic and engagement each year.
A site serving that kind of audience cannot afford to fall behind on security, performance or reliability. Our support gives Brake the technical foundation to focus on their work, with a team on hand to respond when issues arise and to keep improving the site over time.
